Question- Write the advantages of Idealism and Naturalism.
Answer -
Advantages of Idealism
(1) Idealistic approach gave broader perspective to education.
(2) Idealistic approach gives respectable position to teachers which in turn protect both the interest of students and society as well. Idealistic approach of education focuses on giving more weightage to the development of morale and character of students. In today’s environment, it has become very necessary to cultivate ethical values in them and the same should be decided at the time of preparing curriculum.
(3) For developing character of students proper emphasis is given on reasoning, artistic and moral abilities.
(4) Self-discipline is one of the key factors of idealistic approach which helps in cultivating spiritual and character abilities.
(5) Idealistic approach garners teachers with the responsibility to guide students in seeking correct path and development of the same rests with teachers.
Advantages of Naturalism -
(1) Naturalistic approach was considered as one of the best approach. Naturalistic approach includes Dalton method, learn by experience method, Montessori method, Hueristic method etc. Each method has its own implication.
(2) Naturalism was the first to favour students’ independence.
(3) Child-centred education concept was introduced by naturalism.
(4) As naturalism approach introduced several methods of teaching, students of today’s age have more knowledge.
(5) Naturalism propounded the concept of psychology. Education was now based on the concept of child-psychology and psychological development.
(6) Co-education is given emphasis under naturalism.
(7) Behavioural psychology was also introduced under naturalism concept of education.
(8) Buildings of schools equipped with exercise room, playgrounds, well-lit class rooms etc are introduced under naturalism approach of education.
