Humanistic Naturalism of Tagore
Tagore believed that there is only one God and He alone created mankind. Tagore believed that in Him we see an imprint of mankind and through Him we see the imprint of unity between nature and mankind. Thus, Tagore gave more emphasis on co-ordination between man and nature. Thus, we can say that Tagore’s philosophical perspective was a combination of idealism, naturalism and humanism. Tagore considered man as a form of God and supported co-ordination among various capabilities of him and focussed his attention on unity among themselves. Tagore wanted to uplift the soul of man by giving him respect and independence and for this their mental and moral ability was necessary to develop. As per Rabindranath Tagore, naturalism establishes a relationship between nature and man. Both nature and man are related to each other. That's why children should be given in natural environment as this environment helped them in getting accustomed to present scenario. Fresh air of environment acts as a booster to both body and mind of man. Nature prepares man for his upcoming future. Interest and nature are solely responsible for his overall development. Tagore is of the opinion that in naturalism humanistic and spiritualistic approaches both are present. By having humanistic approach, Tagore placed man on top-most level. He used to say that God reside inside men and considered mankind as one whole society. Tagore being a humanistic served mankind his whole life. Tagore’s thinking and perspective lied in serving mankind which ultimately fulfilled his purpose of life. He considered workers and kids as a form of God. Tagore from the very beginning was against to the traditional method of teaching. He is of the view that method of teaching must have humanistic and naturalistic approach.
