बी.एड. सेमेस्टर-1 प्रश्नपत्र-IV-C - जेण्डर, स्कूल एण्ड सोसाइटी (अंग्रेजी भाषाा में)
Question- What is the role of reservation in politics?
Answer -
Reservation definitely plays a role in political specialties. Virtually all political categories have been formed historically, yet some seem more 'natural' than the categories that are formed today. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes are social administrative categories originally created in independent India (Jaffrelo 2003), which have become political categories through reservation policy. Women are comparatively distinct from any political category because of the following facts: (i) gender is largely defined by a biological factor such as gender; and (ii) women are scattered, say, into different communities that are defined by caste, class, religion or region.
The evidence effect of the relatively harmless nature of the current electoral reservations can be seen in the surprising comparison between the two. On the one hand, consensus on reservations, whenever they are applicable to a relatively small population (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes), or to a level where the rewards of political life are limited (local self-government); and on the other hand, the dispute raised by the categories comprising large numbers (women and other backward classes) at the state and federal levels (EPW 2006).
