Question- Who are transgenders and when did the government pass the act for them?

Transgender persons are people whose identity differs from stereotypical gender norms, which identify gender only as male or female. Society has failed to accept their gender identity, due to which they have faced discrimination, social harassment and physical violence. There are certain socio-cultural groups of transgender people who are identified as Hijra, Jogappa, Sakhi, Ardhi etc and it is such people who do not belong to any group but are personally known as transgender persons. This article deals with the rights of transgenders in India as transgender, have the right to be recognized as the third gender and they are entitled to legal protection under the law. Transgender person has been guaranteed equal rights under the Indian Constitution, as the Constitution guarantees justice and equality to every Indian citizen. The government passed the Transgender Rights Bill in 2014 to provide for a prohibition against discrimination to transgender persons in matters of employment, education and health services.
