Educational Importance of Transfer of Learning

Transfer education has a significant impact on the process of learning. Importance of transfer of learning in education are as under :

(1) Transfer and Curriculum : Transfer has a very important place in curriculum construction. Curriculum should be such that it is conductive the mental discipline of the child. In other words, it can be said that such subjects should be included in the syllabus which are related to the problems of daily lifes and are useful.

(2) Transfer and Teaching Method : Teacher education should be given in a method which is suitable for positive transfer. His education should be in such a way that he can apply the knowledge gained in one action or subject to the learning of another subject. It is necessary to give instructions for the transfer of children. To transfer the knowledge of another subject of the children, the element related to the subject should be told, for which the rules of association should also be taken care of by the child. If the teacher wants to make the transfer successful, then he should try to make his teaching more interesting.

(3) Generalization : The teacher should use such teaching method while teaching the children. The method by which the child can draw general principles related to the subject on his own. The child himself should be given opportunity for generalization. Do not interface in it again and again when the ability of generalization is developed, the child uses it in new situations. Regarding this a scholar said that :

According to Hordix : A child who knows that saying 6 × 8 times becomes 48. Can quickly tell the number of chairs in the room in rows 6 × 8.

According to the appropriate discussion transfer occupies an important place in the process of learning, in this along with the appropriate things, the teacher should also take care of some other things such as :

(1) The teacher should have clear knowledge of the subject.

(2) For the success of transfer the development of thinking power and interest towards studies should be awakened.

(3) To select the lesson, subjects and methods of teaching according to the mental ability and individual diversity of the child and to provide favourable conditions for transfer.
