Level of Education in Uttar Pradesh
According to the 2001 Indian census, the total literacy level of India is 64.8 percent, in which 75.3 percent is male and 53.7 percent is female. Where on the one hand, the total literacy level in Kerala is 90.9 percent, in which 94.2 percent of males and 87.7 percent of females are there, on the other hand the total literacy level in Uttar Pradesh is 56.3 percent, in which the literacy level of males is 68.8 percent and that of females is 42.2 percent. In this, only literate males have a percentage of females.
According to NSSO’s 61st Round 2001, the literacy level of children in the age group of 0-8 years in Uttar Pradesh was 55.85 per cent for males and 34.11 per cent for females. As per NSSO 2004-05, the literacy level at 0-6 years was 60.70 per cent for males and 40.60 per cent for females. According to NSSO 2001, the literacy level of 8-14 yearold children was 68.80 percent for males and 42.20 percent for females.
Literacy level in NSSO 2004-05 was 73.22 per cent for males and 49.27 per cent for females, of which more than 10 per cent of girls (11-14 years of age) dropped out of school in 2005.
